Bio terrorism law
Hi all,
We are in the process of sorting our removals to the US at the moment and had a video call with the removal company yesterday. They informed us that the president has recently enacted a bio terrorism law, which now means that no food or drink can be taken in containers. Is anyone else aware of this? I tried searching for more details but can't find anything. Is anyone aware of whether this extends to airline baggage as well?

I also got told no food or drink earlier this week
You have a customs form for your airline baggage. It’s pretty hot on food being brought in. I did have a couple of bottle of my fav buffalo sauce to bring back from Blighty. Liquid seemed ok so I took it as a liquid 😀

Why would you want to pack food into a container? Considering how long the journey takes and the variation of heat and cold, I would not want to eat anything once it had reached me.

We were just going to take some tins and sealed food that we will otherwise just be giving away.

Transporting foodstuffs across international boundaries is not generally a good idea.
Ditch it.
Ditch it.

When did this come in to place? I've brought meat, tins, drinks, snacks and all kinds of crap over just a couple of months ago. They even inspected it all and never had an issue. Done it a million times.

Not seen the details, but if it’s anything like NZ’s rules it makes sense to protect our farming community industry frown bio hazards ... obviously much harder to implement in the US, but that is no reason not to try.... after telling my mother she could not being her applesauce from her apple tree in SW19 with her as carryon (liquid) she tired to bring and declared fresh apples despite me telling her they would end up in the incinerator... a good rule of thumb is if you can’t buy it in duty free at the airport don’t bring it... that said don’t but it there... it’s cheaper with duty paid from a supermarket...

I’ve not heard of this but it doesn’t surprise me. You can’t even carry homegrown apples across county lines in Washington state because of insects and other pests. Unless you are the governor and are taking a box of maggot-infested apples from the governor’s mansion garden to apple growers whose crops and homes have been destroyed by wildfires....
