More on Cinci and Cleveland if anyone is interested. Continental tried a daily Cleveland to London in 2009 and it was quickly scrapped in favour of using the Houston and Newark hubs

http://www.cleveland.com/business/in...cancels_n.html

Around that time Delta dropped their direct Cincinnati to London and Cincinnati to Frankfurt flights. As the article notes, Cinci Delta flights are known for very high pricing--they've got quite a monopoly. For domestic business travel we were asked to fly out of Dayton or Columbus instead of Cincinnati.

How exactly is Charlotte just hanging on? US Airways in total has nearly 650 flights, and US Airways has around 20 international destinations from Charlotte including some to Europe.

Do you mean YYZ (Toronto)? because going from Europe to Cincinnati via YVR (Vancouver) would be way out of the way.

It's just hanging on because pretty soon USA will no longer exist as a separate entity - and you can guarantee that the most popular landing pairs in Europe (LHR, CDG etc) which are owned by USA will be relocated to much higher density AA hubs when the merger is compete.

Do you mean YYZ (Toronto)?
Indeed

Because they'd never mislead shareholders would they?

Northwest and Delta anyone?

What AA hub can replace Charlotte? AA has only MIA on the east coast which is a terrible location for a true hub.

If anything Phoenix is who is going to lose in the merger, not CLT.

MIA is half the size of Charlotte when it comes to daily flights. I would be very surprised if Charlotte loses much of anything.

What makes you think if has to be East Coast? They could move the flights to any location they see fit. The fact is a landing pair for LHR to just about any major US city would make more money then one to CLT, and its not like American has a problem with long range aircraft in its fleet - even more so when USAs come on board with their A330s.

One suspects that your particularly protective over CLT due to it's proximity, but in reality it's not a good position for a hub anyway. As Pulaski mentioned before, it's a legacy thing, not a good business decision.

CLT wont go anywhere, if anything it will likely grow a bit.

You can't explain why you think Charlotte will go anywhere, if it goes something has to replace it and AA has no hub that can replace Charlotte.

World doesn't revolve around LHR and LHR slots, I never said anything about that route, but CLT will stay as a hub, no doubt my mind

For the record I have not, and likely never will fly through Charlotte as I do not travel to the east coast of the US. While loyal to US Airways, I know full well my days flying them and the new AA will be over as they are not likely to keep PHX as a hub, and without PHX they will be useless for my travel needs.

Yet they have daily flights from UK to Phoenix, and even Baltimore and Detroit who the hell goes to detroit unless want to get shot or set on fire or your head cut off! Real hell hole detroit.

Also isn't Denver the big airport in the country apart from JFK? I read that somewhere. Not many flights to Denver either from UK

The airport is very nice and has flights to a ton of other places in the county and world.

So i will be flying via paris direct to cin all done and dusted now. Better to fly direct then mess aobut at nyc or dublin even and have to change in U.S. Esta is valid for another year does it need to be updated to reflect new travel itinery?

Still can't believe no flight from UK but flights to Kansas City and detroit take place but that is how it is. Thanks for the input

As an FYI, in case you didn't know, Cincy's airport is actually in Northern Kentucky. Its about a 15minute drive (with no traffic) to downtown Cincy.

Hubby and I lived in Cincy for a couple of years.

Cabs aren't cheap, and a lot of them in the Midwest don't take debit/credit cards. Ask what forms of payment the driver accepts before getting in. Be prepared with cash. And it won't be cheap, depending on far from the airport you are going.

Enjoy the view of the skyline as your coming through the hills. Cincy isn't a big city, but I always liked the skyline.
