My Bro-in-law has managed to get me an old HTC Kaiser to use. Still confused as to whether it's Windows or Android, but it's on Vodafone. A PAYG Sim is $10.50 for 100 voice, 3000 texts and 250Mb data, which should more than cover my needs while I'm there.
That's great. Glad you've got it sorted out

Merry Christmas!!

The HTC Kaiser aka HTC TyTN II is a Windows Mobile 6 phone, first released Sep. 2007.
Some people did put Android on it though.

Oh and how we lusted after it when it was new and the iPhone was still finding its feet... OMFG! It's a PDA! And a phone! A quadband phone! And it will be so fast, and I can install things on it and stuff, and take pictures and video with it! And it's even got a keyboard!

Not me. I had a Motorola Q and it sucked. Even the iPhone didn't impress me. I stuck with PDAs until the Droid came out and haven't looked back since.

Well, the Motorola Q did suck more than the average Windows phone I picked up a T-Mobile Wing in 2007, instead of very unimpressive first gen iPhone, and kept using that until this Summer, when I traded it for a iPhone 3G.

/had PDAs all the way back to the Palm III.
