BBCAmerica
Does anyone have it & is it any good? I only have basic cable with the least # of channels avble (got to have HBO though) I'd have to have about a hundred other channels if i wanted BBC America apparently. I went on the web site & didn't recognise half the names of the shows.....was looking for Coronation Street & Top of The Pops. Is it worth bothering with?
|
note to self : Coronation Street is on ITV not BBC, that's probably why I couldn't find it. Just saving you all the job :lecture:

Eastenders is on every saturday afternoon. The best thing is the news, thats worth getting it for alone even though it is the world news but it is much better than any american news channel. They don't show things like Match of the day or any of the cool BBC documentaries (Just before I left the UK they advertised a documentary about Sir Bobby and was hoping they would show that over here) - it is less a reminder of home but rather a showcase of british shows in the US. I still have no plans to get rid of it though Patrick |

Dont know where Corrie is shown, certainly not on BBCA Rob |
My fiance has BBC America. It's worth having just for The Office:D I don't recall them cutting anything from that though.

We have it, but as I have no desire to watch changing rooms and add to that, that I am finally bored with watching Charlie Dimmocks bra less boobs flop about, I never watch it. Infact, I do not watch much other than the ESPN channels:D

It is worth having for some programmes. Red Cap has just started last night. 2 hr premier. I quite enjoyed that. There are repeat after repeat of Changing Rooms and Ground Force. Also have home front in the garden, what not to wear, SGN. Every afternoon at 2pm they have a different show - Inspector Morse, Murder in Mind, Monarch of the Glen and a few others.
Mrs Bucket is on endless repeats as well as AbFab and many others. The main reason I get it is for EastEnders, unfortunately they do not show any other Brit soaps. |
My girlfriend is American and swears that Charlie Dimmock and her amazing braless boobs are the sole reason that she continues to subscribe to BBCA! http://mysmilies.creativesell.net/co...ckeye/hihi.gif

But that one trick was way better than anything Paul Daniels ever pulled out of a hat.

It's worth it for me- you have to put up with stooopid commercials though...and I switch off when they start they're endless runs of changing rooms (crap) etc...but the good progs we can get are worth paying for (and to think I used to grumble about the TV licence back home  ). Eastenders omnibus is on every Sat afternoon (we're two weeks behind UK)..hated it when I lived in UK but never miss it now lol! I love Parky, Wire in the blood, the Office, Coupling, also loved British Men behaving badly. Monarch of the Glen was good too and there was an excellent two part drama on Saturday night called Tipping the Velvet. One good thing is when they show a mini-series- you usually get all the episodes back to back. Best of all is the news- US news is totally biased and full of propoganda- BBC World news is the only one I trust for the truth these days. I used to have BBC AM on cable but since we moved house I get it on Direct TV- much cheaper. |
BTW, Anyone else think Groundforce is now a pale imitator of it's former self without Alan Titchmarsh? :D

I was reading in the paper yesterday that the US is set to make a version of Father Ted, with a heavily toned down Father Jack in it.
This sounds as ridiculous as when they made Fawlty Towers in the 80s with Golden Girl Bea Arthur as the lead .... but dropped Basil as a character ! |

BBCA is actually a franchise and is not the BBc proper. BBCA buy British programmes and sell them to the US market and market the channel as BBCA when it really isn't the BBC.
For examply "So Graham Norton" is a Channel 4 production. I think why they decided to call it BBCA is that the BBC is world renowned and probably thouight that the average American had heard of the BBC. I've had BBCA now since '98 or was it '99 - I can't remember! - to many changing rooms and ground force for me:D but I wouldn't be without it especially when I am going through serious bouts of home sickness. I do like to watch Graham, Talking Moovies, What Not To Wear and of couse East Enders. :) |

Originally posted by Patrick What about "fair and balanced" Fox News - owned by Ruport Murdoch and run by George W Bush's Cousin! I am still waiting for the newsflash "All Democrats have Cooties" Patrick Murdoch is behind half the press out here too- he's in the Cato institute, you name it .......and most Americans don't even know his name..scary huh. Now who do you think was responsible for the media silencing during the last fiasco of an election??? You should have seen the Fox channel when they were trying to impeach Clinton..bloody nora LOL. We used to tune in for a laugh, and thought we'd seen it all until the commercials advertising for "any woman who *thinks* she might have been sexually harrassed by Bill Clinton in the past" to phone this number - "funds and support available for law suit". We were gobsmacked. |

They have to have commercials to fund themselves and to pay for all programmes- most progs are BBC. When they have a big event like the QM's funeral- there are no commercials we get the full BBC1 coverage uninterrupted. They have a website with full info and prgramme scheduling www.bbcamerica.com |

Re: BBCAmerica
Originally posted by hhmaker I get it and to be honest its not great. My wife loves watching 3 hours of Eastenders on the weekend but other than that its lots of repeats. Its a shame really given the great quality of British TV. If they loaded it with decent programs You would have thought that it could be a great revenue stream for the BBC (because it has adverts) Decision made then. I'm not bothering with it. |
I am missing British T.V so badly now that I am learning to put up with whatever rubbish BBC America puts out.
I wonder if we bombard them with e-mails they will get the message and introduce something decent. Especially for us stay at home mums. There is only so much changing rooms a girl can take. |
So no one thinks Father Ted is worth watching.....shame on the lot of you
