Banks and Healthcare rant/story
Took our daughter for a checkup months ago and duly paid the $15 insurance deductible as requested. A few months later they send a check for the $15 in the mail saying that they're not meant to charge that for routine checkups on kids.
Okay, great, a penny saved is a penny earned and all that... pay the check into the bank.
Get a copy of the check in the mail yesterday and a note to say the doctor must have closed the account. So the check effectively bounced, and they stick me with a $12 returned check charge
So if the doctor had just left me alone, I'd be blissfully unaware. But they instead charge me out of incompetence and then basically cost me ANOTHER $12!!!
And it's an irritatingly small amount... I'm hardly going to leave work early to straighten this out.
Shows what can happen when 2 evils join forces!

That's a rough deal. However, it does highlight the need to know your benefits before going to the doctor.

Yes, but it was the doctor (or someone acting on the doctor's behalf) that wrote the check so I don't quite see what this has to do with it unless there is some subtle attempt at humor here that I am just totally missing ...

Yeah, but MA is pretty anal about money fraud and especially dodgy banking practices....it's recently just starting to go after the banks in a big way who screwed everyone over on the mortgages for bad practices and none compliance issues.

My mistake for not being utterly explicit in suggesting that big business gets to pay Congress to basically allow big business to engage in practices that would get the individual, aka human being, in a lot of trouble with the law...
