Good Morning Peeps
I moved to American in August and now work for the school district of Middleton, WI. I have a great job and great benefits.
My question is about banks, i am with US bank as my wife was when she studied here (she is a USC), but they are not very helpful and i have been reading Fatbrit's Guide to Credit and Finance and they mention Bank of Ameirca or Bank One (not sure who bank one are, think they are chase any info on who they are would be great).
I am a co signer on our car but i cant get any credit elsewhere (tried for store and credit card), some people say i can get a copy of my credit from the UK, but i want to get the right bank that can help me as i am looking at buying my first house here with my wife in th enext 6 to 12 months.
So please any info on the banks above or on what bank to use to help me do this and also help me move move back to England when i need.
Thanks in advance
Wally

Hi
I would suggest forgetting about any of the big banks. I have become a credit union fan.
In particular, I would suggest you consider Alliant CU of Chicago. Any member of any PTA can join.
With your paystubs I think you will have no problem getting a CC and thereafter 6 monthly increases in limits are easy.

I'd suggest a credit union too, ours does everything the bank did (loans, mortgages, CD's etc) and they do it for less and are friendly.

Credit Union all the way.
I have an auto loan; interest % almost half that of the banks. Sure you won’t get the fancy benefits as the bank (which I don’t use anyway).

Forget the UK, won't help, unless you had a AmEx card already for 12 months or more and then transfer it.
Credit Union is your best bet, tied either through work or some other association, AAA usually gets you into a local one too, especially through car finance.
BoA are a bit shit, but they are everywhere and usually quite easy to get a secured credit card if you put the deposit down.
