Default Bah - recorded message phone calls

Why are they allowed to do it - it's driving me nuts. I just got one that said we need to call some number or other and quote some reference or other (like I was ready with a pen) and something about payment to some company I'd never heard of. What is that all about?! Bring back UK double glazing salesmen all is forgiven!

My favourite are where you pick up the phone and get "Please wait whilst we put you on hold for the next operative to give you an important message". That always gets an immediate cut off from me. If its that important a human would call directly.

We get those calls all the time - it seems like someone who used to have our number owes money. A couple of places have called the number looking for the person and in some cases I've been able to tell a real person that the person no longer has this number, but almost every day the same company leaves a recorded message on our answer machine - one day I might actually call them back and tell them to stop.

Same here, thats the ultimate in rudeness - "We can't be bothered to ring you, so we'll get a machine to do it and make YOU make the effort!"

I've been registered on this for several years now and only get a rouge call once in a blue moon. When I do I make a point of telling them I am on the no call list and if it happens again I will report them....they will be fined $4K for every call they make.

I remember seeing an article on local tv about a guy who goes out of his way to complete any and all applications he can find and ticks the "Do not contact me" box. He then sits and waits and sure enough he gets a phone call from one or two of them. He then files suit agaisnt the company, who usually always settle out of court. Think he made something like $50000 last year doing this!
