Arnie?
I see from the voting that the Governor of California is being voted on today - but Arnies name does not appear in the candidate list. Did he meet a term limit, or step down, or not get picked by his party or something else?

Yes - but see below for the exception to that rule ...
We have a choice of two candidates neither of whom seem likely to be particularly effective.
There is Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay who apparently thinks that there should be a "Buy it Now!" button for the office of Governor, and Jerry Brown, career politician, former Governor (1975-1983), former mayor of Oakland and current Attorney General.
I believe that since Brown's first two terms as Governor preceded term limits they don't count and he gets the chance to do it all over again.

Sounds a bit like the mayor we have in my hometown (he's known as the "mayor for life" around here). He reached his term limit and left local politics. Then the city merged with the county. His past terms didn't count and he again become the mayor. Now he'll be running for Lt. Governor at the next election.

Term limits didn’t stop Michael Bloomberg in New York – he just changed the rules and was elected Mayor for a third term. Alright for some………

Re: Arnie?
After 9/11 Giuliani's 2nd term was coming to an end and he offered to stay for a 3rd term...Bloomberg was against changing the rules so Giuliani could stay for a 3rd term. Obviously this was because he wanted to be mayor of NYC. Then when Bloomberg's 2nd term was up he changed the rules so he could serve a 3rd term. Now his 3rd time is up he has changed the rules back to 2 terms.

I'd personally like to thank Ms Whitman for putting an extra $140 million into the California economy - next time, do you think you could put that directly to education & the care of children?
(apparently that's what she spent of her personal fortune in the election campaign)
Cut out the middle (wo)man?

I hate the smear campagins, the spending is ridiculous and there is no need for it.
(on another topic, I did have to laugh a little this morning when they interviewed someone from the prop 19 legalise canabis campaign that failed, she said that she was disappointed, but said that she personally never made it to the polling booth, she just got too busy.....)
