Ok, Matt got his AP yesterday (woohoo!)
We sent off the I-130/I-485 package July 31, the checks were cashed August
3. The Helena INS page stated that we would need to send in our AP 4-6
weeks before our intended departure date. It's been barely 3, so we're
pretty surprised. Anyway, we asked for a single use AP and on the paperwork
we got today it has 2 boxes, one that is Xed. It says: "Presentation of
the original of this document prior to August 14, 2002 will authorize an
immigration officer at a port of entry in the United States to permit the
named bearer, whose photograph appears hereon, to enter the United States:
as an alien paroled pursuant to section 212(d)(5) of the Immigration and
Nationality Act." <<< the "as an alien..." is the part that's checked. The
second box says: "Valid for mulitiple entries during validity of document"
So since the first box is checked and not the second, does that mean that we
do, in fact, only have a single entry AP?
Also, Matt's curious about getting his stuff from Canada. Do we
have to worry about more special paperwork when we cross the border into the
US? He thinks that since it doesn't say anything on the AP about bringing
his possessions into the US that we'll hit a snag at the border...
Will we?

Thanks

Without digging out an A/P to double check, I would say it was for multi-entries. Little surprised that you would have applied for single. After all it is the same cost for single or multi-entry ;-)

Since you didn't go the K-1 route and don't have that in a passport, bring your receipts from filing the I-130 with you on the off chance that someone says something. Doubt it will happen but why not be prepared for all eventualities.

Have a safe trip.

PS List everything on a sheet of paper that he is bringing into the country. Saves a lot of time and trouble in case they want to go through his things. Again this probably won't happen but rather see you safe than flustered at the custom's office.

And the A/P is indication that he is migrating with INS knowledge.

We wanted to leave by August 20th and figured we'd only want a single-entry AP because we don't really want to be in Canada any longer than it would take to get Matt's possessions.
We didn't get any kind of receipt from Helena, this is the first reply we've received from them. So what should we take instead of the I-130 receipt?
Thanks for you help, Rete...
