I bought a SpongeBob Squarepants and Dora The Explorer DVD player yesterday for $10 each.
I doubt they're multi-region though.

I use an old Philips DVP642 (older version of the Philips discussed here).
Works a treat. I burn DivX/xvid files to a re-writable DVD disc. I put on a bunch of TV for the week (~4GBs worth), watch it all week long when the mood takes me, then wipe it clean and start over again at the weekend.
My non-tech wife now often sits down on the couch in the evening and says "what's on the divo-max?" (her attempt at combining DVD player and her vague knowledge of the files I'm actually playing!).
