Re: Anyone been to New York

Hi,

Just returned from London and picked up a copy of the Sunday Times "Travel" magazine at Heathrow airport (December 2006 edition). It has a special feature on 'Six of the Best' New York hotels for under 100 pounds per night and they are:

1. QT (off Times Square). Rooms from 93 GBP: http://www.hotelqt.com ...'perks really astonishing....designer smellies and DVD players as standard...QTs bar is a super-hip places to knock back Margaritas on a Saturday night. Swimming pool, Gym equipment with personal TV screens, wet rooms with shower heads so huge you'll have to plant trees form a month to allay your environmental guilt. Includes continental breakfast until midday.

2. Thirty Thirty (Midtown). Doubles from 79GBP http://www.thirtythirty-nyc.com (you can hire a fridge to keep drinks cool..) Says v. popular with Brits so book in advance or be prepared to pay extra for an upscale room.

3. The Gershwin (Midtown). I know where this is...right next door to the Museum of Sex LOL!... "Feels more like a nightclub than a hotel....has personality..'

http://www.gershwinhotel.com

4. Incentra Village House (Greenwich Village). .."It's the classic New York experience - staying in a converted townhouse in Greenwich Village, where you've long watched 'Friends' characters leading perfect lives and drinking lattes in chic coffee houseses. This house is textbook - an 1840s redstone...." 'You get to stay in your own apartment with its own doorbell in this converted townhouse where every room is different, with a giant, high-ceilinged bedroom plus a kitchenette'. Doubles from 95GBP

5. The Bentley (Upper East Side) Doubles from 70GBP http://www.nychotels.com/bentley.htm

.."feels like a swanky hotel, not a budget one. Go over Easter and it will cost you 3 times as much. Space is generous for NY and you'll be automatically upgraded to a suite if you book throught hte hotel's website.

6. JC Soho (need to book at least a month in advance). 3 floors of a converted townhouse with simple but immaculate decor. No room service but there are flat-screen TVs, DVD players, espresso machines and free internet access. Doubles from 75GBP

Hope this helps!

I can agree with that :) Good hotel right opposite Madison square gardens, two blocks from Macy's on west 34th and about 5 blocks from Empire State building.
