The couple arrived shortly after us, he was a little older than me, she immediately struck me as the quiet and dutiful wife who I now know has likely endured decades of being married to the boorish oaf she was with............
I concluded that this little performance was all for my benefit, the "American" in the room, especially as it went on and on.
its even crazier than the thread currently in the Aus forum trying to convince Brits in Aus that all Australians hate us

For me, I find it curious that the opposite is rather, well, the opposite;
Aside from the backlash from extreme right-wing Americans about Piers Morgan's famous anti-gun debates, the yanks generally don't have all that much to say about Brits, let alone something negative. Still, what the yanks do have to say seems to be pretty innocuous or express some sort of charming "endearment", but little to suggest they feel the same sense of "rivalry".

Oh well, looks like you guys have taken an unfortunate set against me so no hard feelings, and the advice and thoughts I got in the other threads did turn out to be very helpful.
There's definitely a lot of good info in some of these threads but I'll just lurk and refrain from posting henceforth, it's never good when an auditor comes across as a liar, I obviously need to work on my "florid" writing style.
