Another School Shooting

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but guns are just as easily available in the UK as they are in the USA (on the black market at least).
The issue is not about the morality or the legality of owning a gun, the issue is keeping them away from kids. It seems that irregardless of incidents at Columbine parents still appear too lax when it comes to safely storing guns away from kids.
Oh and my opinion for what it is worth is that I am pro-gun but feel that there needs to be tougher regulations, tougher penalties and a limit to the kind of guns available.

They may be easy to get hold of if you know where to look, however so many gun murders in the US seem to be random, someone loses their rag, grabs their gun because its there, and bang, dead wife, dead kids...
Here you read about people shooting their families on at least a weekly basis, people shooting random strangers in malls and at schools on a monthly basis. Extremely rare that this happens in the UK.

You don't need a license to buy and own a gun in Maine, so there's no pre-clearance.
You only need to apply for a license if you want to sell it to a shop or to get a carry permit.
Sure, you're not meant to be from out of state, nor be a criminal, but they don't actually check for any of that when you buy a gun there.
The only hindrance is the cost of the thing and the cost of bullets going up.

Ah, Bob, I'm going to have to ask you to get a permit for that free speech, there, buddy. Should just be a formality. Three day waiting period.

However I do support the idea of liberal gun laws. Why limit the freedoms of the many for the insanity of the few? If you choose to commit crimes you will be punished, simple as that. Perhaps that isn't very utilitarian, but it seems to follow the idea of the individual being responsible for their own actions and isn't that what the US is all about?

It's because this is guns, it is a godly subject in the constitution what no one wants to tackle it, despite the constitution having many other amendments in the past.
