American Idol - season starts

OK, the sad git that I am, I admit, I am addicted to American Idol.

Anyone else watching? Or am I the only saddy on this board tonight? Actually, I think it beats anything else on American TV for the whole year but that's not really saying very much.

You have to admit, add a touch of British to any program (even Simon) and you get some watchability to American TV. Most (maybe all) successful american shows have actually come from Britain or overseas but rarely is this mentioned by the media ;) It more often than not surprises my American colleagues when I gloat about this fact :)

Anyway, I have my replay/tivo set (I cannot watch with adverts) and I'm ready for a beer and a sing song!!

Yep - I'm taping it, then watching it later when the trouble gets in from work. We watch it more for the horrendous reprobates than the talented metrosexuals :D

Its only good at the start I think when all the real freaks are auditioning. Once they get the shoe its just not the same.
On the subject of crap american tv - well I tend to agree in the main but on sunday I started watching 24 for the first time ever and it was superb. Quality viewing.

Its into its 5th series now and from what i've seen of the latest one it would be well worth watching the others on dvd.
The whole series is filmed in real-time ie 24 episodes each representing 1 hour.

I live in NJ and due to the bad weather this weekend the cable service has been down. I am sooooo dissappointed that I missed 4 hrs of 24. I e-mailed Fox asking if they would rerun the first 4 hrs as lots of homes in NJ have been without TV, surprise, surprise, I haven't heard back from them. I love 24 and was really looking forward to the new series, does anyone know of a way to view these episodes?

I think the 1st series was the best. I watched it on DVD just before the 2nd series was aired it was superb and got me hooked onto all the subsequent series.

Hello and welcome!

Which part of Jersey are you in then? I'm in NJ too (just off I-78 in Millburn-Short Hills ie. 15 mins west of Newark airport.

Our Comcast was ok.....but it did go down for about one hour only...the cable guy had been out the day before as our signal was so weak and he's put a booster box thing in the basement....so much better now.

I live near Morristown. Our provider is Patriot Media who are appalling but they have the monopoly on the cable market in this area!!

I am originally from the UK and have been in NJ for 10 yrs.

Can't stand reality TV, so I don't watch it. I too gloat about them all being British made! Everyone here is amazed at how much was ours that they bought & remade. I'm sure some of them don't believe me, but I don't care, I know we're better!!! ;)

Do you have a regular TV aerial (rabbit ears)? Just thinking you could have watched it on your local terrestrial Fox channel (via "council telly" as I'd say back home)....

I've got to agree with that, you'd think their friends and family would tell them how crap they are but then they seem to be just as delusion-ed.

He can take it a bit far at times, but it does make entertaining tv, and fair play to him for making himself a fortune despite his discernable lack of talent.

I only ever watched the show one time in the beginning...I hear ads for it on the radio...seems Simon being a nasty bastard in an English accent is their main marketing tool....

I have seriously never watched a single episode through. The only bits I've caught is of him dissing on them and thought it was hilarious. How dare he tell them they're crap? They're all winners.... :D

Caught him on Leno the other night and he was bitchin' how he barely made it back as they wouldn't give him a visa... :D

I'm glad to see American Idol back on TV again. It's one of the few shows we watch - fun at the beginning, and interesting as the season progresses to see how the contestants develop. I've always been a sucker for talent shows. I loved The X Factor, Pop Idol and Fame Academy in the UK.

It's good to hear an English voice, even if it IS Simon Cowell's!

Does anyone watch Craig Ferguson on the Late Late show? I think he dopes a great job - watch his smoke - I can see him taking over from one of the biggies soon. :)
