Interesting thread. Years ago on British TV I saw an American documentary about a group of wagons travelling to California, it might have been called something like 'Tale of a wagon trail' or something similar. I have always wanted to see it again, has anyone heard of it or seen it? It was written from primary sources such as diaries and details what life was like and how harrowing the journey was. Have done a google on it but not come up with anything that looks like it might be the one.

Not meaning to take a pot shot or something ... but frankly, when us "super-intelligent-know-it-all-Brits-lets-take-the-piss-out-of-Americans-for-their-lack-of-history" ... we forget one thing: NATIVE AMERICANS whose history goes way back before England (as in English England) ever existed. I am beginning to wonder why we so easily forget the NATIVE AMERICANS. Just where did corn come from - England? Nope. The Native Americans were growing crops before England came into being.

Re: American History
I just found it, sorry it is not entitled anything like 'Tale of a wagon trail' durr!
It is one of the American Experience films called 'The Donner Party'.
Well worth watching if it comes on tv, but be warned it is really harrowing there won't be a dry eye in the house, even my usually tough brother was crying
