The diversity between the numerous Native Indian Tribes (e.g., language) suggests that at least one central group moved into a previously unoccupied land and then branched out in different directions (but I'm no expert on Native Americans), bit like the occupation of the Galapagos, new land, few invading species, which rapidly evolved to occupy unexploited niches.
