I know, its so homely being surrounded by books isn't it!I still buy ones that I know I will enjoy and read over again, but the kindle is a godsend for travelling - and has saved me having to buy yet another bookcase!

So I'm thinking this will help with space and also be lighter for travelling.

Travelling is brilliant, as long as you turn the wireless off then the battery runs for about 100 hours, long enough for any trip. I do Aus to the UK a couple of times a year and the bliss of carrying this instead of three fat paperbacks is just

Can also use Calibre to convert books if you buy them from other sites, such as sci-fi or tech kind of sites.
Nice thing about Calibre though, able to subscribe to news sites, comics, what ever and it downloads and compiles them into ebook format, so you could read the bbc news, or your local news from home in the morning if you want.

Re: Amazon Kindle
I work offshore, and fly from the Philippines to the USA to do it, every five weeks. This Kindle is worth its weight in gold to me saving me buying, carrying, and hunting for books.

Re: Amazon Kindle
Just did the price check.
139 US, 139 Cdn, 111 UK
The UK price seems very high, but with tax added to the Canadian one that's $155 Cdn. That's still equivalent to about 100 pounds, but not such a huge difference. Don't know about US tax. If anyone does, let me know what it'd cost me there as I'll be in the States at the end of the month.

They've got the cheap add version for $114 though...but you can also sometimes find refurbs for $100

online, there won't be tax...if shipped online to US address, shipping is free....you can pick it up at Target, Walmart etc and depending on the state, around 5-9% sales tax.

that's true...so far I've always been lucky, nearest one to us I think is in NJ, or so it seems, so never get taxed
