Aetna Dental Savings plan
We don't have dental coverage in our health insurance and a quick Google search found a plan from Aetna. Its not an insurance product but they claim it allows their members access to lower rates. I will be phoning around next week to verify but I wonder if any BE have experience of this service?
Any comments anyone?

I don't know if it's any good or not, but a first step might be checking whether any dentists in your area are part of the plan.
I looked up our area - none of the price-fixing cartel in our town are members and there's only 4 dentists in a 75 mile radius that are (compared with a few dozen that are in network for our crappy dental coverage).

It's true though. We live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, where people are born, work for one of three plants, then die, without ever going anywhere much. As such, they tend not to look outside of the town for services and so all the various business sectors seem to have settled into cosy little arrangements where nobody competes on price.
If asked, I'm sure they'd say that they compete on service. But as they're all invariably shit, that's a hard claim to justify.

I have the Savings Plan card and my dentist accepts it - her billing Assistant was on top of charging me the reduced fees. I also used it to get a discount on a root canal, and they too knew how to use it. But several dentists I checked with didn't take it, and didn't know what it was - they seemed confused when I tried to explain it! I'd recommend finding a dentist in your area first that will take it - and compare the Aetna Savings Plan pricing with Cash pricing - see of it's worth paying out for. I used it for a cleaning, regular check up and full set of xrays - so the savings paid for the card first time I used it.
