Default Advice Please

Hello I’m looking for some advice hopefully you may have answers. I’m looking on moving to USA 6 months a year… I work in the oil for an American company (UK citizen) and work in Africa 1 month on and 1 month off so I would be in USA every other month…

My question is:

Can I easily obtain a house rental over there being from the UK or do I need any particular documents?

Thanks

Some landlords might have issues not being able to carry out the usual credit check, but with a big enough deposit you can work around it.

As you are not a US Citizen and presumably not a Permanent Resident, how do you intend to spend so long in the US, do you have a US Spouse?

Hi thanks for the reply. I have a US girlfriend... I want to spend my month off in the USA I know I can come on on visitor visa but I want to rent my own place that the only thing that I'm concerned about.

Spending a month, should not be a problem.

Repeat and sooner or later it will be.

Marriage should solve the issue.

Entering for a month every 2 months will result in being refused entry sooner rather than later when the PoE determines (correctly) that you are attempting to live in the US without a visa to do so.

The obvious visa option is to marry your girlfriend (assuming that she is a US citizen).

Here is a link to a round up of what other options you may have...

Apart from marriage, live in a third party country, or look at a B2 visa, but as you're not retired, chances of getting it are slim and a visa denial will be a lot of hassle in the future for VWP travel.

Ping ponging while using the VWP won't last long. Rental won't be a problem, big enough deposit will do it, same for the utility companies. Having a place empty every other month might be a issue, depending on location - heat/cold/humidity.

You cannot "move" to the USA without an appropriate visa. You can only "visit".

I work in the oil for an American company (UK citizen) and work in Africa 1 month on and 1 month off so I would be in USA every other month…
Would you be keeping a residence outside the USA which you do not intend to abandon?

Rene asked about residence, not citizenship. You don't have to have a UK residence to remain a UK citizen.

Let me rephrase the question. Will you be keeping a home (place of residence) outside the USA which you do not intend to abandon?

Hi Rene, Yes I will be keeping a home in Scotland. Would it be easy for me to rent one in USA?

Thanks

You've already been told that won't be the problem.

The problem will be the admission into the US.
