Advice needed please
I will shortly be moving to the US with my American husband. When we move over, I will still have a small loan that we will continue to pay off from a UK bank account.
What I need to know is, is it possible to keep a UK bank account when I am no longer residing in the UK? Can UK banks send statements overseas? Is it even possible to have a loan still outstanding and then move overseas (providing you still agree to make the repayments)?
Any practical advice on this issue (before I tell my bank of my intentions) would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.

I've had no problems with my HSBC accout. They sent me a monthly statement here in the US and I have a small student overdraft. What's weird is when I went to cancel mt Egg card, as they said you have to reside in the UK, they told me that wasn't the case and I could leave a UK address on the account.

I still have a UK bank account with Barclays, and I've been here for nearly 2 years now. They have no problem with it, as long as I still have money in there. However, I did give them my parents address in the UK (although I also gave them my USA address), and dropped my statements to once a year.

I left the UK in 1983 and except for the year 2000 have been overseas ever since. Have had a UK Barclays account in the UK the whole time. They have been fully aware of the situation the whole time.
What is somewhat strange is that I have been unable to OPEN a current account from overseas, with Smile, despite the fact (a) I have provided them with evidence confirming my account with Barclays, and (b) Smile has about 25k of my money in an ISA and savings account. I wanted to open a current account with them to get the higher interest rates on the ISA and savings account.

I left in 1992 and kept my account, I returned for 6 yrs and now am back with the same account still active in the UK. I actually had my Mum put on as a trustee for the account, she recieves all the statemants and pays in/draws out money as I need her too. It seems to work well and they know I don't live in UK as well. That too is with HSBC
