AA to charge for 1st Checked in Bag!
Oh dear.
American Airlines is now going to charge $15 for the *first* checked in bag on domestic flights. I can just imagine how hellish it will be with even more people taking carry on bags into the cabins (and trying to find space in the overhead bins) so they don't have to pay for their luggage....

I guess most of the other airlines will soon follow suit...

This really is taking the piss now
Think I'll travel wearing 6 t shirts, 2 sweaters and a coat and just put my underwear, trousers and extra shoes as carryon.

AA is the pits. Charge for the first bag? They should be grateful that people actually fly with them. They are just dreadful.

unfortunately there are no more 2 pieces of luggage free on most of the airlines.. The past weeks have seen a decline in that. One peice of luggage everything else u pay for.
Hand luggage is a major problem. But as the planes dont want to take a delay ..they just put the passengers on and then how the hell do u find room in the cabin! under seats, anywhere where its safe!! pain in the ass!!

I flew with AA to Hawaii from Dallas. It was a 8 hour flight. But since Hawaii is a state, they classed it as a domestic flight... so no food... for 8 hours! You could of course purchase it, but it was damn expensive.
And what alternative do you have when 3000 ft over the Pacific?!

Re: AA to charge for 1st Checked in Bag!
I flew Air Alaska on Tuesday on my return from my vacation in Alaska. Everyone it would appear, with the exception of my sister and I, had carryon bags. Not just one, but two and three, and the airlines allowed it. After 3/4's of the passengers were on and seated there was no room for the carryon's of the remaining 1/4's of the passengers. People tend to abuse the rules, IMHO, and make life difficult for others. So you pay $15 to check a bag. $15 will not break the bank. Cut back on the drinks onboard.

Maybe I was just flying with a stricter airline (Midwest & Delta), or are airlines not enforcing the rules anymore? I was just on Delta's site last night, and they are still saying 1 checked item is free for domestic and 2 are free for international.
I've only flew AA once a few years ago, and I liked them quite a bit more than others I've flown...I guess they've degenerated in the past few years?

He was told that his hand luggage (his only bag) was too heavy and that he'd have to check it in. So he proceeded to put the contents of the bag on.
The check in staff couldn't believe their eyes! He had to take it all off at security but once it was all through the x-ray machine he basically put it back in the bag.
That'll teach them!
