4th July
So what are you guys doing?
Going to any parades, fireworks, parties? It seems to be becoming less of a spectacle around where I am...old town was going to cancel the parade but decided to keep it, but they aren't doing any fireworks. Nothing is going on in my current area though...have to head a fair bit out to see any fireworks, but at least the towns that are doing it are staggering them, one tomorrow, a few on Saturday and Sunday with a couple on Monday. Not many parades though, which is a shame as I always thought they were kind of fun, even if a little dorky. |
Re: 4th July
Working. I have a 5am meeting (joys of working for a European company) so I'll treat it as a normal working day and bank it to take another time.

Re: 4th July
Considering it's going to be about 118 during the day this weekend here in Phoenix, which means probably 95+ at night, I'm not going out anywhere!
There's usually a bunch of events, but with the heat, I don't know how busy it will be. I never go to any of them, anyway. Rene |
Re: 4th July
Dh is working and I think Ds is too. So Dd and I will go to the clubhouse and swim and watch the local fire dept set off safe and sane fireworks, lame after seeing fireworks elsewhere but the kids love it.
We have so many fires around here I haven't been to a 4th at the pool yet where the fire dept actually finished setting off all the fireworks before getting called to a fire somewhere, usually a few parents finish setting them off. |

The missus gets the Monday off, but she is working this weekend. She'd rather of had this Friday off than the Monday though, so we could have taken advantage of one of these - http://highlandstreet.org/index.php?...d=79&Itemid=70 Probably the zoo....but I'm not driving a good 1.5 hours with the kids on my own...when it's going to be hot out  |
Re: 4th July
I will be staing home and trying to keep the puppers calm!! I hate 4th and New Years, poor animals :(
Also we have some family flying in so we will be just hanging out with them and catching up. Got the day off though, so that is a lovely bonus!! |
Re: 4th July
We used to set up shop early at Gasworks Park in Seattle, to get good specs for the fireworks, then found a different park, Magnusson Park, that looked across a lake (Lake Washington) to see other (Redmond/Kirkland/Bellvue) towns fireworks, much smaller crowds and nicer atmosphere. This year I think we will go to a small park on a hill that takes in a few displays too, that's what we did at new year and that was good.
My favorite 4th July was at Forks (the vampire town) they had stock car smash-up craziness. |

Re: 4th July
We're going to our local Farmers Market on Saturday. Sunday it is CarmelFest with food, kids events, a talent show etc and on Monday there is a parade and fireworks in the evening. My OH had to work last 4th July but not this year so kids are excited he can come to the parade with us. Last year it was ridiculously hot and after 2 hours and no sign of the parade ending I took kids home before parade finished. There is going to be 2 beams from the World Trade Center going to be driven through town as part of the parade. They are eventually going to be used as part of a 9/11 memorial in Indianapolis.

Re: 4th July
I'll be doing the same thing I do EVERY US holiday, spending it with the wife's family making sure their brats don't damage my brats and hoping the day goes quickly whilst the wife and family all talk about the same things they do every year, memories of years ago. Her brothers will light fireworks and throw them at each other, the nephew's wife will treat her son as a slave and make him run around after her other 3 kids whilst those kids will attempt to terrorize and destroy things (hence my protective role with my own kids). I don't really treat it as a day off work, just a day doing a different job. One of these days we'll do something different and fun I swear.
The only good thing is that it's not at our house so at least we don't have to stay all day. Someone suggested it be held at our house though and I pointed out that this is a British house and we will not be celebrating losing a war here, the wife who doesn't cook and rarely cleans thinks that's a valid excuse. |
