2nd Job
Um, I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to post this here, so moderators, please delete if it's innapropriate or whatnot.
I am in desperate need of a second income as I have a lot of financial things to take care of, not to mention needing to save some money to move back to the UK. I already work 40 hours a week Mon-Fri, so I was hoping to get something that I can do at home, but if need be, I'll work outside my home instead.
I understand that names of places offering work probably can't be named on the forum, so what I'm looking for is ideas. I'd thought of stocking shelves at markets, etc, but in my area, there's a lack of these types of jobs that fit my full time schedule. I'm too scared to go for any of these envelope stuffing jobs, etc, as there are so many scams out there, so I can't think of what else I could do.
I looked at my local job website, and also some of the bigger worldwide ones, but I can't find anything suitable. Aside from stripping/hooking/dealing or anything else illegal, or starting a home-based business, anyone got any good ideas for a short-term second income? Not looking to make millions, just a lil extra.

Try your local grocery store. I'm sure they're looking for weekend cash register folk. Might want to start there?

I would suggest waitressing on either Saturday or Sunday at a better type restaurant. You should be able to pull in an extra $50 or more for a slow night.
I once worked on Saturday mornings at a local family owned coffee shop/restaurant from 7 am until noon. I never went home with less than $50 plus wages in my pocket.

go to a mall, ask any shop, they will have jobs....starbucks offer health insurance to part timers as well, even if you work a day a week.
check out craigslist as well for your area.

Wal-Mart, Target and Grocery stores
Hotels and Motels
Pharmacies (Walgreens / CVS) etc
Pizza Delivery
Restaurants & Bars
Stores in the Mall
These are some places that have evening & night shifts. Several of which I've worked at when I needed a second job.

Re: 2nd Job
Yup when I was in my thirties that was good money
Kate
I've held numerous second jobs in the past when I was supporting two children without child support. I worked full time as a secretary days and 3 nights a week worked in a conference center as a waitress. On Saturday I had the above job as well. I also worked at one time after my full time job as a bartender at a local little boat club. Damn good tips at that as well.
Unfortunately, it was all before the Regan sh*t and tell years.

Have you considered healthcare? It's the most lucrative and in-demand job there is. I'm not saying nursing because I know you need qualifications for that, but as I nurse I always advise my friends to become patient care techs or assistants. In England you used to be able to become a healthcare assistant with little or no experience but I'm sure over here you may need some kind of simple qualification. Try calling a health care agency and asking then what their requirements are. I recommend it because there is no shortage of work and you can pretty much work whenever you want because the demand is so high. The wages aren't bad either compared to other jobs. If you need experience you could always volunteer at a hospital or care home for a few weeks/months and then you will have access to a lucrative and regular job.
