I have found the best way to get a job is having a mindset that you don't really need it.......with that attitude your posture and everything about you is more relaxed and it gives off an impression that you are not easilly flustered and can handle many situations........and if just for a figure you want 85K then tell em your looking to get 100k ........belive me MANY MANY companys need YOU more than you need them

The cologne is a good idea but the rest is frankly immaterial.
As long as you use green ink on purple stationery, of course.

I have just been offered my first job over here and I didn't even have to write a resume, someone approached me about it.
It would only be temporary from January until April but at least it's a start and fits in with my kids. I have to go on a training course in December and depending on how it goes I will be inspecting pre-schools. I am really excited and nervous about it at the same time.

A good IT site is Dice.com.
Also, check out a CraigsList.org site in your area. I had an interview from a job I found on there and was offered the position after I took another one (but they were paying less so it wasn't all bad
).
Great idea LionHeart. I'd speak to the BE owners and get a topic on this. I know I could have used it a year ago.

I find that licking my lips frequently during an interview is very helpful. However, if the interviewer is a woman, I lick her lips.

the hobbies..that's a CV thing, on the resume, been told not to bother as they couldn't careless over here..hmmm *l*
www.linkedin.com bit shite for job hunting, but handy for finding names of people in companies, especially HR and department leads...

When writing a resume don't put your hobbies or interests on it or that you have a drivers licence and your marital status if they want to know that they will ask you keep it to your skills and achievements.
I agree with the linkedin.com I didn't find that one any good at all.

a. I was in very niche business which required specialty knowledge.
b. My experience lies in Intl. markets, most of the jobs I have went for look for experience and contacts in domestic US markets
c. I was relatively well paid, once you get in the higher salary range, the competition is stiffer and there are less jobs??
Couple of other links not already posted are ;
http://www.indeed.com/
http://www.theladders.com/ - this one requires a fee to use all the features??

You do have to sell yourself in this country, esp. on the cv, in a way that is totally against the culture of those of us who grew up in the UK. Grit your teeth and do it. You have to blow your own horn and list your "achievements". Do not expect the potential employer to deduce them or even ask you about them. They expect you to take the lead in that; it's considered a sign of confidence and of interest in the job.

![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
and linkedin...well it has been good for finding names for letters and emails, but other than that, it really hasn't been of any use...but if anyone uses it, send me an invite because i'll give anything a go *l*

Just had yet another call from an insurance company. When I asked him what the salary was ( knowing full well there isn't one), he explained that most jobs offer money for in exchange for hours whereas his company offered a career
...........Just shut the f**k up with your BS sales pitch
