Default $480 a suit case on BA

Idiots. Now if you want to take a 2nd suitcase, a fee of 240 quid.

Idiots. We split cases to distribute weight. Now it all has to go into one and can't wight more than 50 pounds. That puts my wife out of any travel with BA

240 quid.. are they kidding???

- My wife's extra bag is now going to look awfully like a golf bag

I nearly posted this earlier, but then read the article and thought it mainly irrelevant to the US forum because:
"BA said that flights to the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Nigeria, Brazil and Mexico would be exempt from the new charges to bring policy "in line with the local government regulations". "

It's still a bastard thing to do and I would be tempted to boycott them for this.

Wow, the way people are talking its as though BA are the only carrier available. You have a choice - don't fly with BA. This is capitalism - a company charges what the market will bear.

If sales go down no doubt they will revise the policy.

maybe to dingo land, but they aren't having that policy to flights over here, so it won't affect us lot....

I wonder if this, combined with the restrictive hand luggage regulations on UK-departing flights sees more people transiting through Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt than London and BA...

you can also take a musical instrument as an additional piece of hand luggage as long as it fits through the x-ray machine. I'm pleased it doesn't apply to US but if it did I would have been stuffed when I moved over here with:

2 suitcases both weighing exactly 32kg
Box with a bicycle ( and load of other crap ) weighing exactly 32kg
lap-top bag the same exact size as the metal carry-on size testing thing
guitar bag with a whole load of other stuff than just a guitar in there ! ( I bought a band-new gig back with extra pockets just for this purpose )

Now that was fun getting my connection in Chicago.

Thinking about it though I'm kinda liking this idea, as much as it would have cost me much more on this one-off journey I really get annoyed when I see people on holiday with 2 giant suitcases and I'm a normally a pro at travelling light with no check'd baggage at all.
