She'd better make sure she gets to the pub or restaurant for the job ahead of any Pole - they're all over the place working in the bars and restaurants here now....and very good they are too!

M$S give the best tourist exchange rate from what I am told. Actual exchange rate pushing to $2.08 on XE at the moment.

1983-84 US interest rates were horrible (try selling a house when mortgage rates are 12 percent, ), BUT we lived the good life o'seas because the dollar was strong..........

Travelex in Stansted a few weeks back were charging £3 commision and selling dollars at $1.90 to the pound, but buying them back at $2.20!

Kineida! Mind you, now that the whole European travel exchange market has practically gone (one currency and everyone can use ATMs), I suppose they're trying to make up for it everywhere else.

Surly it cant keep on dropping in value... Paper its printed on is going to be worth more than the USD if something doesn't happen soon...

The pound still has some way to go before it beats the highs seen in 1980 and 1981, when sterling reached more than 2.40 US dollars. On November 5 1980, the pound hit 2.446 against the dollar, before which the highest levels were seen only in the early 1970s, when it reached 2.644.
