You would have to be insane to move to this place with a health issue. Do your periods of ill health prevent you from working? At my last company, I got 20 days PTO (which is considered very generous by US standards) but sick time was included in that. i.e. if I'd taken 5 days sick in a year, I'd have 15 days for vacation and such. I was lucky in that my boss was very flexible and I'm in good health, but not everyone is that lucky. If you require time off due to your issue, it wouldn't be at all surprising if they insist you use PTO. I've heard of people even being asked to take half days just for doctors appointments. Aside from that, you may end up with significant costs depending on your health plan. Plans have an out of pocket maximum, and varying levels of coverage depending on the problem, but I always budget at least a few $k of health expenses each year. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret moving here per se, but having an active health condition would be a dealbreaker for me.
