Default Working for US Company outside US

I am from India, employed by a US company and on H1B right now. My
current H1B is valid till August, 2006. In 2 months, i might have to go
on an expat assignment. Given that situation i have the following
questions.

1. Do i need to renew my H1B, Even though i am employed by the US
company and on their payroll, i will not be in US? Some people i
talked to told me that as i won't be in US, i don't need H1B. If that
is the case, then how would my employer satisfy the employment
eligibility test? Doesn't that need my H1B to be valid?

2. If i were to stay out for 1 year, then would that reset my H1B
clock? i.e. would i get to stay in US for another 6 years when i
come back, assuming that even when i am away, i continue my
employment through H1B?

3. I will be manager in India for 2 years. So could i try to get L1A
after the first year and try to file for green card in EB1 category?

4. Do i need to pay US taxes while i am outside?

I appreciate any help in this regard.
