Hmm, let me see. Have you tried doing any research on this yourself? You are already using the internet to ask the question here. Why not put a small bit of effort to try and answer the questions yourself?

And by the way, the answer is no, he isn't.

I think the question is incorrect. It should be "Is the current congress considering to abolish H1B visas?".

The answer is yes and no. Just look at http://www.thomas.gov and search by using the word immigration. However, the house at several hearings in regards of L1 and H1B visas. Based on this, the high unemployment rate and two similar law proposals in the Senate and House, it appears that the law on worker visas will be changed. It appears to the direction to make more difficult to get one.

To say that this is normal is perhaps incorrect. But this happens in any country once the unemployment numbers go up.

That's correct. When Clinton was in office, they wanted to attach
Mexican concerns to the tech visa bills. Bush is fairly pro-Mexican,
so from what I've read this is mainly be a congressional push.

This is somewhat different. We were set to lose factory jobs, but if
we lose hi-tech what's left? We can't all be rap stars and sports
stars.

As far as info, it's easy to find; there are quite a few sites--we
have links on our site and we are conducting our own little poll.

The one thing about America is that it believes in businesses of which about 80% are small ones, it likes to stay competitive, about 2 yrs or so ago the number of H1B visa's was increased by Congress due to heavy lobbying, especially when IT was a hot cake.

Alot of Asian countries are offering Us companies cheap labour which will affect American jobs. No American Govt is gonna sit and watch jobs move out of the US or they can kiss the Govt job goodbye!

Just wait to you see the Govt start focusing on the Economy, I have read somewhere that Us companies moving their HQ to small islands to avoid US taxes are going to have a tough time soon because Congress is not happy about.

Finally, the best place to find out about H1b visa etc is go to www.zdnet.co.uk or .com/ click on news/H1b visas.

Based on the mass exodus of Indians out of India, I have heard that
the Government of India is useless, and that Asia Indians are never
going to develop any self respect for themselves and India their HOMEland.
Is that true?

I think H1-B visa should be stopped or put on hold. I got laid off from
Worldcom 2 years ago. A lot of H1-B holders did not get laid off because
they work for less pay. I am a green card holder but I found that a lot of
H1-B holders got preferential treatment at Worldcom. Right now whats
happening in america is this: a lot of R&D and computer programming jobs are
outourced to places like india and at the same time the big multinational
companies are clamouring to keep the H1-B visas so that they can kick on the
ass americans and green card holders and hire H1-Bs and get the job done
cheap.
This is a ridiculous situation.

It's not other people's fault you are unable to compete on a global scale.
That says something about you, nothing else.

This is kind of funny )) H1-B slaves for greencard for many years, kissing
his
bosses ass and trembling in fear of being fired one day, hurray, he
finally gets
greencard and then he gets boot in the ass and is replaced by another
H1-B )

seems fair enough to me, although
this is how things are, better get used to it

Adam,

And what prevents you from agree on lower salary? Pride to be "green card
holder"?

Let's look at simple example. You have a lawn. You have to take care for it.
You have 2 choices: hire Mexican (Chinese, Korean, Russian, etc. at your
taste), who will do it for 10$, or you may hire "professional lawn care
specialist", who is very proud to have all diplomas and will charge you 100$
for the same job. Whom will you select? I think "professional" has a little
chance if he will down a price to be at least 15$. But if he's "too proud",
believe me, he has no chance.

Good luck and be simpler...

I have read that Congress has passed a massive H1B1 program which Bush slipped into other legislation.

Roger, what you are not seeing is how valuable a green card is. They are now free to leave their $45,000 a year slave job where they have less rights than a typical researcher (boss puts his name on his work) and move elsewhere in the country to a job paying $150,000. Then as they get more experienced, market themselves correctly, later in life they might earn close to $200k and see their kids grow up to eventually have US citizenship.

If you vote for pro-corporate candidates and measures, this is the slavery that you get as a result. It doesn't seem to bother the flag-waving hillbillies.. ever. They support their politicians time after time.
