I am J holder, subject to two year home residency. I got it when I was working in Canada.
I wonder if my two year stay in Canada matches the requirement?

No. The two year home country physical presence requirement must be spent in the home
country, which is designated on the IAP-66. It is usually the country of citizenship, but
it could be in some circumstances the country of permanent residence of the person
immediately before starting the J-1 program.
See http://exchanges.state.gov/jvisa/J%2...514)/jexp3.htm, Section
514.44(a)(iii).
This says in part that the 2 yr HRR is not satisfied until "such person has resided
and been physically present in the country of his nationality or his last legal
permanent residence for an aggregate of at least two years following departure from
the United States."
