Where do I start??????
My Husband and I are looking to relocate the family to New Jersey. Where do i start? I did visit the Embassy website but it was all very confusing. DO I apply for a Visa now? How long will it take to come through? We won't be ready to go for at least another year but I wondered how long it all takes to sort out?
Help?

Re: Where do I start??????
its not just a matter of 'applying' for a visa. They come in limited categories and many are for specific reasons (ie fiancee visa or a visa that your future employer has to apply for). Its is quite likely that you simply may not even be eligible for ANY visa (as we find every day when people come on here to ask). Look through the links supplied in the prior few posts. If you think that you are suitable for any of them then come back on here with more relevant info and questions and we can help you with the specifics and timing. If you dont seem to fit into any of the categories - then either you have to start making plans now to get yourself into one of those categories (ie find a us citizen to marry, or find a job with a multinational firm who might transfer you over in a year etc) or you must give up the idea and look at other destinations like Canada or Oz.

Re: Where do I start??????
My family are Aunts Uncles & cousins so I would not qualify for a family visa entry.
Work wise between my husband and I what would be the better job to put on the form for employment based immigration? I am a draughtsperson to trade and my husband is an HGV Driver but also has a security background with the prison service and is trained in anti-terrorism techniques. (I thought his CV may look the better one with that on it)

If you have then you clearly need to re-read it - you wouldn't put your occupations on a 'form for employment based immigration', your potential employer has to do that for you and you would need to be sponsored.
I'm really sorry it seems to me that with your occupations you've got very little hope of finding a company prepared to wait months for you, go through all the hassle and expense of getting a visa for you, etc, when they can just employ a US citizen! You need to have very specialist skills to get a H1B. Certainly an HGV driver would not be able to get a H1B, I'm not sure about a draughtsperson though, perhaps somebody on here will have more of an idea. But, do bear in mind that even if you manage to get a H1B as a draughtsperson, your OH would not be able to work at all as they would be on a H4 visa.
Edited to add this link to a recent thread about getting a trucking job in the US which may help............

Have you read the link you were given earlier to the article in the Wiki explaining each way to get a visa for the US??

No, which is why I said it, to give more information to someone who is asking for help, which I thought this site was about!
