Default When Does Asylee Naturalization Residence Status Begin?

hello,

i got political asylum in 1994 but got my green card -- due to my
procrastination -- in 2005. when did my residency status start? in
other words, from which point on must i wait five years before applying
for naturalization?

did it start when i entered the county, when i got my asylum or did it
start just a year before i got my green card? all three have a certain
level of possibility, depending on law interpretations.

any help is much much appreciated.

cheers.

Why do you think he is British.

I wonder if there are and recent succesful claims to Assylum, IRA Terrorists (but then they would unlikely to be British) maybe? Those fleeing from Red Ken, Socialised Medicine and Religous tolerance?.

5 years less 80 days from you acquiring your GC btw. Unless there is a longer time frame for asylees?

That's 5 years minus *90* days from the Permanent Resident start date.
For asylees, the start date is indeed different: it is backdated one
year from the approval date.

No, it's not. It is the Usenet group misc.immigration.usa.
BritishExpats just mirrors it...

Are there different levels of possibility?

What is the date on your Green Card after "Resident Since"?

the date is about a year ago, i got the green card august 14th of this
year and the residency date is about the same time last year (dont know
exactly, dont have it with me). but i read clearly on the INS web site
that the law states that asylees start counting their residence status
since the moment they enter the states. i cant find it now, though...

thanks for all the help. and no, i am not british, i am/was from

Nope.
8 CFR 209.2(f):
"If the application is approved, the director shall record the alien's
admission for lawful permanent residence as of the date one year before
the date of the approval of the application, but not earlier than the
date of the approval for asylum in the case of an applicant approved
under paragraph (a)(2) of this section."
