What is INS screwed up and they find it later
What would happen to me if it their mistake and I want to move further with a green
card or citizenship. I did nothing wrong and did not misrepresent the facts.
Is there any general provision in the law about that, they can not look back.
Thanks,

I'm not sure what you are asking. If you don't misrepresent facts about yourself on
your application, INS internal errors won't be held against you. If you are trying to
split hairs over something and then want to later say 'it's your fault to the INS',
then I suppose it might be a problem. You given a potentially pretty broad range of
'errors' for any specific comments.

A lot depends on the circumstances, but in general, if the INS mess up, and you
*know* they've messed up or should know they've messed up, then you cannot use their
messup to your benefit. For example, you've been in the US for 5 years on H1B and you
need to renew it for one more year. The INS issue an extension for 3 years in error.
You can cannot stay for 3 years, and the INS will hold it against you if you try. You
are supposed to know the rules pertaining to your status.
It is up to you to ensure that your status in the USA is valid in spite of your
employers or the INS.
