Default What happens to B1/B2 after H1B stamping

I have a B1/B2 visa valid till Oct 2010. I will be shortly going in for H1B stamping. Will my B1/B2 be still valid after H1B stamping.

My employer was hoping that I will be able to work as volunteer for him in July before legally joining him in October. But if my B1/B2 is cancelled I will not be able to go before Sep.

Does anyone know the fate of B1/B2 at the time of H1B stamping?

Sure. A person can have multiple visas.

The B1/B2 does *not* allow to work, not even as volunteer.
So, forget about this.

In addition, you would either have to leave and re-enter the US, or file a
change of status application to change from B1/B2 to H-1B status before you
can start work.

There's no reason why it shouldn't be. However, I've heard that some
Consulates sometimes cancel other visas when they grant new ones.

You cannot work on a B-1 - whether or not you get paid has nothing to
do with it. Assuming this is a new H-1B, you won't be able to start
work until 1 October.
