Default What is the best visa for someone that wants to move to the US?

I have two friends that want to move to the US from Estonia to work for a
year and check it out. Can someone please tell me the best way to advise
them to go about this? I can get them work here in the states once they
get here if that will help.
Thanks

One of the most widely used non-immigrant temporary worker visas is the H-1B. The H-1B is for individuals who possess a U.S. Bachelor's degree or its equivalent, and who are coming to the U.S. to fill a position that normally requires an individual to possess a U.S. Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.

H-1B status is valid for a three year period, and may be extended for another three years for a total of six years. In some situations, a person may extend his or her H-1B status beyond a sixth year where there is a pending labor certification or green card application.

You may find more information on the H-1B and additional non-immigrant temporary worker visas at my firm's website located at: http://www.srwlawyers.com/imm_opt_visachart.asp

Hope this helps.

You have to have special skills, extraordinary ability, and usually, a college degree to get a US work visa. In most cases you have to get a company to sponsor you and they have to jump through all these hoops to prove that they couldn't find anyone in the US with the qualifications and/or interest in the job, and they have to hire a foreign worker instead. From your post, I don't think this is something your friends would be qualified for.

There are some other possibilities. For example, there is a seasonal worker visa for workers at ski or summer resorts. Also there are some cultural exchange programs which involve teaching in summer camps, that sort of thing. But you have to get the job first in the former, and you have to sign up with an agency for the latter.

Other than that, I guess they can apply for a B "tourist" visa to come and visit you, but they won't be able to work while they're here, and they will have to convince the consular officer that they will go home when their time is up.

That's not special skills and hence cannot get work visa.

Nowadays, visit visa holder cannot apply for soccial security number
and hence the employer cannot turn a blind eye and hire people. Even
for tax id number, the rule seems to have changed such that there needs
to be a filing requirement.
