Well f*** my ol' boots!!!
Boring news to others but I kind of liked it.
Was playing around on the Dell web site and I thought I would try and see if I could setup a credit account with them. Since I've been here, I've had no USA credit history.
I was pleasantly surprised when they approved my application based on a couple of things now appearing on my history
Never even got around to doing the secured credit card route either.
Needless to say, a nice new Dell laptop is on route and will arrive tomorrow

Congratulations!
We've managed to buy a house, but that's about it. Pretty strange that you can get a huge mortgage and can't get anything else. Oh well, all we have is time, right?

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. I'd been here about 5 months and been turned down for a gap card twice. I went into a jewelry store to get the wife a present and the sales guy did the pitch about opening up a card. I wasn't going to but then I figured I had nothing to loose so I filled it in, handed him my UK drivers licence and 5 minutes later I had a $3000 credit line. The guy said that the company head office was somewhere down by Mexico and they were so used to people with no credit, especially immigrants, applying that it's rare for somebody to be declined. Since then I've not had a problem with getting store cards, a car loan or a mortgage.

I remember a customer at the car dealer where I worked who was 45 years old and had no credit history, he had paid cash for everything. It took ages to get him a loan for a new pick up truck ......... poor guy.
