Volunteer work while on H1B
Finally I have found a cause that I can volunteer for and feel
passionate about. However, since I am not taking any money from these
people, how can I recieve tax benifits from this.
They can give me a reciept of the work performed, in terms of the
hours or value (which is quite big). How can I file this in with my
taxes to take advantage of the tax benifits? How does this work out.
Please advice.
Thanks.

Re: Volunteer work while on H1B
You probably should contact a competent tax advisor, since this is an
immigration newsgroup. But as far as I know, the general rule is that time
spent on volunteer causes is not tax deductible, only actual expenses that
you incurred, or physical non-cash contributions, would be considered
donations.
