Default Visa revalidation

Hi. I am on H1B status expiring in October of 2005. I did special registration
as well.
I am a citizen of Jordan and I would like to go to Jordan. I went to Jordan on
the same H1B with same employer in July of 2001. The sticker Visa was given to
me and it expired in July 2002. Now I would like to go to Jordan and would like
to renew my H1B visa sticker either here in the states or in Jordan. I've heard
of severe delays in granting that H1B sticker in Jordan. I also heard that
there is a possibility that they won't renew the H1B visa sticker here in the
states.
Can someone briefly explain to me the following:
1- Do I have a chance in having my H1B visa sticker renewed here in the states?
2- If I go to Jordan
a. Will they renew my H1B visa sticker?
b. What delays should I expect in Jordan?

Very much appreciated

A.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely. But it certainly doesn't hurt to try.

Yes (unless you are ineligible for some other reason)

It was supposed to be around three weeks, but in reality it can be three
to six months.

Hint: before you depart, contact your Congressperson and see if they know
what the actual delay is, and if there is anything you can do to
accelerate the process. For a while, I heard that some consulates would
allow you to mail the passport and get the process started. They would
return the passport to you, and then notify you when the background check
was completed. Unfortunately, lately I heard that most consulates no
longer allow this. This, too, is something a Congressperson might be able
to help you with and figure out if such a thing or some other obscure
procedure might be available.
