Visa Interview suspended
So my fiance went to his interview this morning with all of the documents and photos that he was told to bring. They didn't approve his Visa, they told him they were going to suspend it, and wanted more information from me. I sent in a notarized affidavit with a statement from my bank showing my savings account, IRA and CD's, I sent in a statement from my employer showing my initial hire date, annual income etc, I sent in a copy of my 2007 income Tax return. They told him that it wasn't good enough. So now they want my income tax from 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, along with all of my W2 forms, as well as a second statement from my employer verifying my employment, and another statement from my bank, as well as photocopies ofmy pay stubs, and evidence if I am in a union since I work for the Government. I don't know why they want all of this. I never read anyone else having to send in all of this documentation of income for a I-129f (K1) visa. The worst part is all of the documents and photos they told him he needed they didn't even take from him.
I guess I'm kinda down now, I really thought that it was done, I was waiting for a phone call saying, I got the Visa its done, but now I have to mail off these strange documents, which I just did, and half of which were already included in my affidavit of support. My fiance said that they didn't even look at the affidavit when he gave it to them, but rather stuck it in a pile of papers and said that the Visa interview was suspended and that in order for them to issue a Visa they need all of those documents. Then once they get them, he has to go back to the Embassy to turn in his Passport, because they refused to take it now and told him he needed to send it in or drop it off once they got the paperwork in.
I just feel so stupid. I read everything and did everything exactly like they asked and still it wasn't correct. I can't find anywhere a statement that I needed to send those forms in. Just the Affidavit.
Oh well, guess there is nothing I can do about it.

Hang in there...
Sometimes its just down to luck and the mood of the visa officer.

You said that you work for the goverment...which agency, may I ask?
Even I really don't think that matters...of all the K1 visa applications that I have read, never saw so many detailed information needed, what's the difference would make your tax return of so many years ago if you could be in another job? or what's the matter if you did not pay your taxes four years ago but now you are up to date with the IRS?...

Kate, your story *is* unusual. Your income isn't marginal? (near the pov guideline?) New in the job? (less than a year?)
Was your fiance given anything in writing about the delay? A paper with 221(g) or more on it?

I don't know your case, you or your fiancee but wonder if there is something in his or your background that warrants a more in-depth look into your financial background? Could this possibly be just a stall for more time to clear your fiancee's security check (although they would have said that if that were the case). Did he have to give finger prints? What conversation occurred during the interview? Was he asked questions that he didn't know the answer to perhaps? Just trying to find a reason.

Re: Visa Interview suspended
I just went over your posts. We simply do not know your complete background. There maybe something we don't know about.
Also, by way of speculation -- ConOffs tend to rotate around July 1st of every year. He may have run into a peachy brand new ConOff on her very first day on the visa line.
Quite a few years back, a senior IV ConOff was transferred from Taipei to Auckland. All of a sudden, Auckland went from a piece of cake to extremely tough -- it lasted about six weeks.
I once had to deal with an Employment Based refusal in Seoul by a brand new IV chief. In talking with her she expressed her concerns and I told her we would more than happy to provide the requested documentation. However, I mention that, as a private practitioner, I had developed my own "profiles" of visa fraud by nationality and asked if she had been stationed in China? She responded she had transferred from Beijing -- but what difference did that make? I reminded her that I would comply with her request but that, although I did not approve of visa fraud, I did have a perverse desire to see at least some originality. We shared a laugh and she became attuned to Korean fraud patterns [which were different from Chinese].
Again, any answer would be speculation. Please remember the rubrics "your mileage may vary" and "you can't fight City Hall."
Good luck.

Who knows maybe the officer was in a grumpy mood. I guess all of my clients are feeling my harsh treatment today because of my mood.
But thanks for the help and thoughts. I am sure we will get through this...eventually!

The action certainly doesn't fit the usual London profile...

I have my income tax returns from 1994, when I was 14 and started working at my first job. I have filed one every single year thereafter and have had employment, even when I attended my University. Hopefully it will all be resolved in the next few weeks. Thanks for all of your help!

Did they give him the contact details for the courier company they use. He can call them and they will pick his passport up and take it to the Embassy, unless he lives or works near enough to be able to call in easily.

Re: Visa Interview suspended
. . . and then he was asked for my information and he didn't know I send it all in with the Affadavit, so he just handed the affidavit and that was it. The officer never looked at it, and I guess they both thought I didn't send in anything, so the officer told him that the interview would be suspended until that paperwork was sent in and the he needs to send in his passport for the Visa, so I guess he was approved pending those document.
Glad to hear it was a simple, easily resolvable mistake on the part of the Consular Officer. Best of luck to you!
