Visa approved in Frankfurt after Dui...
I am not german national -third country applicant-, and did apply for J1 visa at us
consulate in Frankfurt. A couple
of months later, i had to go there
for interview.
Consular officer asked me lot of questions
about my residency then wanted to know what I
did in previous countries I stayed. I
left my home country 7 years ago.
Since then, I´ve been in 4 different
countries including u.s. where
I already spent three years on a non-immigrant visa. I gave her detailled description of
my previous job positions and tried
to justify them: they will give me some new employment opportunities based on a better knowledge...
She then wanted to know about my plans,...
about my intention to leave. This was
highly expected...I had a clear plan in my
head and answered clearly and succintly.
Then she came to ask me for more details
about a DUI arrest I had in california in 2000.
She was pretty surprised because there was
nothing about it on my fbi file.
Of course, i reported it on DS156 and
this makes her think I was honest about
my future plans. I had no court record
with me but told her the date of arrest
and court name. She was ok with that
and told me this is not big deal.
Lots of others questions came up and
She finally told me that my application
was approved. I got my visa a few days
later.

PS:
My passport will expire in 8 months but
consulate issued anyway the one-year visa.
What could happen next at Port of Entry ?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Congratulations! At the port of entry, nothing is going to happen - they
almost always defer to the consulate. Once you have a visa, you are as
good as admitted.
The reason you have a visa valid longer than your passport is that once
you get your new passport, you will still be able to use the visa. Simply
show both passports.

Congratualtions Max.
Did you apply for the visa on your own or did you get an aid from any
lawyer?
