The Department of State now offers a website where applicants can check on the status of pending visa applications, whether immigrant or non-immigrant.

Thanks for posting the link. Should also post disclaimer that the info may not be updated frequently enough to reflect reality

I tested it with my case number and can report that it has not been updated in the last 14 hours.
