visa
hi
I have a student visa F1 and I am planning to get married in the end of the year. My fiance is not from Usa but he already applied to be a citizen.(right now he has a green card) His process already started and he already did the fingerprints. I just want to know what is the best thing that we have to do when we get married. I want to know if I can stay with my student visa or if I can start the process of green card because my fiance already have it.

Re: visa
I would recommend that you wait until he is a US citizen. At that point,
he can sponsor you immediately.
You can get married now, but immigration-wise, it won't change anything
and could interfere with you travelling or extending your F-1 status.

The non-immigrant would benefit only after the naturalization oath. The
process of citizenship can take anything from a couple months to about two
years or so; it depends on where you apply. You can look up processing
times on several lawyer's Web sites. See my FAQ page for links.
By the way, this may change in the future; H.R. 539 is a bill currently
pending in Congress that would allow Green Card holders to sponsor you the
same way. Please see my lobbying page (see link below) and be sure to
write your Congressperson to support this and H.R. 832!
