Default Very impressed with Lincoln, NE! I-751

I got awesome mail today: my new, long-term permanent resident card!
Yes!! Here's our timeline for those who are still working on getting
their conditional status removed and are interested how long
it might take.

My husband and I filed to remove my conditional status in the
beginning of January 2006. I mailed the package by registered
mail on Monday, January 9th, to Lincoln, the Nebraska Service
Center. The package was delivered on January 12th according
to the electronic delivery confirmation. The notice of action
arrived on Jan 21st, together with the return receipt for our
package. The NOA said my green card was extended for one
year and processing the form would take a minimum
of 6 months. Well, as you can see, I got mine sooner.

A couple of weeks after that I got a request to send in my
original green card with additional evidence, if I had not already
sent it. I sent the green card and enclosed a letter where I just
said that I'd already enclosed the other stuff with my first
application. What we sent as evidence was: a cover letter
written by my husband, describing our situation; some
insurance papers covering both of us; our business card;
a copy of the lease for our apartment; a copy of my bank
account agreement which showed him as the beneficiary upon
my death; three letters written by our friends; and some other
stuff which I forget about. We didn't have any loan papers or
a joint bank account but apparently the other stuff was sufficient.
And like I wrote, I got the new permanent resident card arrived
today, April 27th, 2006.

Good luck to everyone else dealing with the Nebraska Service
Center, they seem to be very efficient these days!

I have one question.. do you live near a USCIS office at all? I had about
the same timeline with Nebraska with my I-751 except they sent me a letter
saying my removal of conditions was approved but they want me to drive 1000
mile round trip to St Paul after making an InfoPass appointment to get a
stamp in my passport and give fingerprints or something.
I guess i'm just wondering why some people get to just send in their old
greencard and have a new one sent to them, and others are required to make
ridiculous round-trips to get stamp while their green card is approved. It's
insane considering, I'm three months past the time i could apply for
naturalization!!

Well, why didn't you apply for naturalization 3 months ago when you were first eligible? You don't need an approved I-751 to apply for naturalization. In fact, the N-400 will force adjudication of the I-751. You could have killed two birds with one application. Anyway... file the N-400 now - it's the only way to get the USCIS monkey off your back forever.

Hi there,
I live on the eastern side of South Dakota, not really close to any
major city, but still way closer to St. Paul than you are. I don't
really know why they want you to make an InfoPass appointment
while I got my green card in the mail. Maybe someone else has
researched this better?? Sorry for all the trouble you have to go
through!

Well, I'm happy for you that they didn't do that to you. They were really
prompt in giving me my decision - I was pretty impressed by that. Just not
so impressed by the fact they wanted me to make such a long drive to do it -
when others have been able. I'm in North Dakota.. so its really quite a
drive there and back - and extremely hard to get any time off work (although
I guess if my boss keeps refusing to give me the time off they wont have me
as an employee at all because I'll be out of status - haha!). I would have
gone before now - but i am having dragged out issues with Australia in
changing my name on my passport - I didnt want to get the stamp in a
passport that is not in my married name. However they wont change it to my
married name at the Embassy without me changing it back home with Births,
Deaths and Marriages and that is proving a pain in the neck.

I am eligble as of March 20 to apply for citizenship - but not sure if
that's something i want right now. If I applied for it, would they still
make me go to St Paul in order to get that stamp? I'd apply for it tomorrow
if that was the case. I have been approved for removal of my conditiosn
already.. i just have to get that stamp before i get that green card. Seems
stupid to have people drive 1000 miles for a half hour at the most when
others can send their stuff in whoe live closer and not have to.

When did you file your I-751? Have you not received a yellow letter asking for your original greeen card. The problem may not be that they did not to mail you a new card, but the fact you did not send them your old one. No one gets a new card unless they have the old one. .

Hi,
I had the same question whether everyone gets the yellow letter, and as per NeedHelp

"Yellow letter is NOT approval letter. It is just kind of RFE asking people to submit their original GC. " So I am assuming that in case of no RFE they might ask for an interview or an approval without interview.

I never got a letter asking me for my original green card. I got a letter of
extension for one year first, then I got a letter of approval recently
saying I was approved and needed to make an appointment at the USCIS office
in Bloomington, Minnesota in order to have my passport stamped while my
green card was processed.

I think what happened they sent you the yellow letter but it got lost in the mail. Mine got lost also and I knew this would happen. I was mad for 2-3 weeks, and then, somehow the letter appeared in my mailbox, 3 weeks after it was mailed. I think it was misdelivered and then returned by someone and delivered corectly. If yours got lost - you have to go give them your green card. Everyone who has his file pending at Nebraska since November gets this letter..

I am confused, thats what i believed that I would be getting yellow letter as I filed on April 6th 2006, at Nebraska. Is there a way we can find out the infromation, and what do you mean by giving the green card if I do not receive the letter?.

Thanks for everyones time!

I dont think so, I got my approval before November - so I am quite sure they
really do expect me to make the trip to Bloomington. I just have not been
allowed to have time off work to make this ridiculous trip. I swear my
company will leave it till the very last minute before i'm allowed to go. I
am seriously thinking of emailing my States senator who was so helpful when
it came to the I-485 adjustment process.

I just don't understand why some people are told to deal directly with NSC
with the processing of their green card, and others have make insanely long
trips just to get some kind of stamp and submit their stuff at a USCIS,
instead of doing it through the Service Center like others have been able
to. The letter says I'm approved, whats the difference?

You are wrong - you should get it, but it may be too soon. One month after filing is the time people usually get it. It can come even later. If you do not get it, I do not know what is best to do. The worst that can happen is that you get approval letter and have to go to immigration office to give them your card. .

No - I am NOT wrong about not getting a letter from them.

The worst that can happen is that you get approval letter and have to go to
immigration office to give them your card."

That IS what happened!!! That's what I am aggravated about.. The 'nearest'
immigration office is over 500 miles away from me - yet people who live
closer to immigration offices have been able to send in pictures and get
their green cards processed at Nebraska Service Center without making
ridiculous 1000 mile trips. I would understand about making that trip if it
was AOS, but its not - its simply removing the conditions on my residency
because I am still married to my husband.
