Vaccinations Question
Hi,
I'm Canadian, just going over the list of vaccinations. I know I've had all
of them except varicella (chicken pox) and pnuemococcal. I'm not too sure
about that last one, it sounds like something I should've had, but it's not
on any of my vaccination records. Does anyone know if it's one of those
mandatory vaccinations Canadians receive as a child, or if it's something
I'll have to go get on my own now? I've never had the chicken pox, so I was
planning on getting the varicella one anyway. Any idea on how much those two
would cost (if I even need the pneumococcal one) or if they're already
covered? I'm in Ontario, if that helps.

Re: Vaccinations Question
I am in toronto so it should be similar, if not the same.. I had my little yellow vacination card updated by my doc.. I recv. the polio and tetanus within the last few yrs (I think these should be done every 5 or 10 yrs..) and also I did the hep b shots..
when I called for my medical they said I needed that card... plus I also needed measles, mumps and rubella.. so I went to my walk in doc and got those..
at my medical he asked if I had had the chicken pox and said that was an extra shot, at a cost of $85 if I had not (I am assuming at that office..)
so probably wise to get all loaded up on shots and bring that card..
good luck.

Re: Vaccinations Question
Hi, as far as I know the pnuemococcal vaccine is the flu-type vaccine that has become common in the last fews years. The doctor I spoke said that it is only compulsory for those over a certain age (here its 50 or so) or those with respiratory problems like asthma.
I'm in the same boat that I'm sure if it will be required for the visa even though I wouldn't normally get it here.
Please correct me if i'm wrong...
