Default Vacation to Canada - does this require a US embassy visit?

I'm currently resident in the US with a UK passport and an L1-B visa which is valid for another 2.5 years. I'd like to fly up to Canada for a long weekend to visit relatives there, but I've heard a rumour that I'd need to visit the US Embassy in Canada before I can re-enter the US. Is this true?

Does a ! instead of a . represent a semantic difference?

Hi:

No, you do not. One, you say you have a "visa" in your passport which is valid. And second, assuming you don't go to for the purpose of getting a new visa, a valid I-94 is considered an extension or change of a previously issued visa if the trip is less that 30 days.

Also, what have you heard that you have to use Ottawa only? Just curious since many people go to Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Quebec City, etc etc.

you would have to visit an embassy IF you had renewed the L1B whilst within America and had ti still collect the visa stamp. On your first trip out you would need to get the stamp before you could go back into the US. But if you have not renewed then its no issue.

He specifically mentioned the Embassy - which is in Ottawa. The others are merely Consulates!

oops - sorry! I was mainly trying to point out 'one' reason a person might HAVE to visit an embassy which they may then have turned into the original question that everyone MUST.
