Default USA immigration office in Cairo

dear all

have a nice day from cairo.

this is my short story ,,
I married two years ago in egypt from USC and my wife travelled back to
USA .
now my wife will travel to me in egypt to live with me about 14 months
,and we think to start the immigration paper through the USA embasy in
cairo ,but after i checked its website i found the following :
-If my wife travelled back to usa after marriage then she cannot apply
for the visa for me
-If my wife live in egypt then she can apply for the visa for me .

really i do not understand this .

can any one kindly advise if my wife is able to apply for the visa for
me through the usa embassy in cairo????

thank you .

You will apply for your own visa, but will need your wife to petition for you first.
From what you wrote, it looks like if she lives in Egypt, she can file the petition for you there.

If she lives in the US, she must file in the US.

Mustafa,

Based on what I read on the website, it looks like you're wife can't petition for you in Egypt since she already left after you got married. She has to file the I-130 petition at her nearest service center in the United States. You should still call or email the consulate to make sure.

Hi Mustafa,

What kind of details are you looking for? A year processing time (or even a bit longer) seems very normal for Cairo. Do a search on this forum for the words "Cairo Club", at one time there were several people going through Cairo on here and they shared their experiences. Your wife will be with you while you wait, anyway, if she is coming to Cairo for 14 months.

Best Wishes,
Rene

Why are you worried that your wife can't petition for you in USA? All she has to do is file the I-130. And, why not save time and file it before she leaves the USA? I suppose she could mail it from Cairo back to USA, but it seems much easier to mail it within the USA. I guess I'm not understanding your concerns.

Be aware that there are several steps to the process, and if your wife is in Cairo with you, she might miss receiving some of the future paperwork that needs to be done.

Just to clarify something, your wife is not filing the visa application. She is filing the petition which will allow you to apply for an immigrant visa.
