If you are a hghly qualified specialist with lots of qualification

Trabbant and allegro people need not apply ...

Slim to none. If you have highly specialised rare skills, you've a
chance. You'll have to find a potential employer to sponsor you, then
it will be several years between them starting the sponsorship process
and you going to the USA to work.

Slim to none.

Unless you are a REALLY skilled mechanic.
There is a guy in San Francisco that got the H1-B through a Ferrari
dealer, but he's a graduated in the Ferrari Academy of Modena and used
to work on Formula 1 engines.

Are you talking about visit visa or immigration.

I hear that Canada is short of motor mechanics.... try there.

If the company is interested in you, they will file a petition for an H visa for you next April 2008. If you're lucky and you get approved, you can get the visa and start in October 2008. But there is nothing YOU need to be doing right now except keep in touch with the company and its lawyers, and make sure they get your application in on time, on the first available day in April 2008.

You wouldn't do anything for quite a while. The company would need to
sponsor you, and an EB-3 Green Card is the way with the best chance of
succeeding in your case. It would be a few years down the line before
you would get involved, and there will be various forms to file,
medicals to have done and so on. I'd look into the details nearer the
relevant time, the company's immigration attorneys will advise you.

Very unlikely to qualify for an H-1B, and the company would need a
very good lawyer to get it through.
