Default US Visa process

Hello

I would like to know what are the processes and how long it takes, if we wish to join my parents in US, my father holds US Citizenship.

I live in UK, married with 2 kids and we all have UK citizenship. My birth place is Tanga, Tanzania, East Africa, my wife birth place in Bombay, India and my 2 kids is UK.

Thanks....

Regards
Dharmin

Your father sponsors you all for F3 visas - currently the wait time is about nine years.

No. The father would sponsor them for IR visas (immediate relative) by filing form I-130. They will fall under category F3 (family-based 3rd preference), but the visa will be an immediate relative visa.

I'll be a bit more conservative, and suggest the wait will be about 12 years.

Immediate Relative and FB-3 (family 3rd preference) are 2 different family-based categories. They would be FB-3 as you say. IR is limited to US citizen's spouses, parents, and children under 21.

The FB-3 backlog now is over 8 years. They are currently processing cases where the I-130 was filed before May 22, 2001. You can check the times here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bu...etin_1360.html. You check the Visa Bulletin, All Other countries, Family 3rd.

Argh... I always forget about the "under 21" bit. My bad. Thanks for correcting this!
