Default urgent!!! confused!!! help!!!

Guys, please help me out!!! In 2001 February my wife (USC) filed a petition
for my AOS. We got seperated in March and hence I didn't go to EAD
fingerprintitng appointment (June 2001). We got divorced in Auguest. I was
maintaining status (F-1) at the time and transferred to H1B in 2002.

Yesterday I got a letter from INS asking me to appear for an interview for
the AOS application in Garden city NY. If I remember correctly, I answered
the EAD fingerprinting letter stating that I'm no longer pursuing the
application since we got divorced.

So what should I do now? Am I in some kind of trouble? Please help me
out!!!!!!

You are not in trouble. Write another letter, restating that you are no
longer pursuing the application, and that you are currently in valid H-1B
status. USCIS often does not match up letters from you with the
applications, so a reminder is in order.

In any case, if you don't show up for the interview, your AOS would simply
be denied. USCIS may then initiate removal proceedings - in that case,
simply provide evidence that you are in valid H-1B status, and you should
be done.

It is no small thing to enter deportation proceedings, and to get a
favorable outcome, even if you are entirely in the right. I strongly urge
you to avoid entering into deportation proceedings at all.
