unemployment Insurance
Hi,
Is there a down side to claiming unemployment insurance from TWC while on Green Card status? will that be an issue when you go for Citizenship?? Thanks, /Arvind |

Then without even receiving a penny, they set themselves up for removal! Ouch! And note this is for *non-immigrants* as opposed to those who've got an EAD or a Green Card. Stuart |

It usually is not possible for non-immigrants to claim unemployment benefits, since to do so you have to be willing and *able* to accept any employment. This obviously is not possible for somebody on H1 or other temporary work visas. This whole thread was about unemployment benefits for Permanent Residents. -Joe > > Stuart |

This whole thread > was about unemployment benefits for Permanent Residents. > > -Joe Yeah, I realized both points (been there, done that, got the bruises ... although it's not always obvious ... some states' laws make it look feasible ... and even the people who work there have allowed claims to be made!) The point I was trying to make was that although it's not a public benefit, but an insured service, claiming it can cause grief to NIs because the INS interprets a claim very much like a public charge. It was the public charge bit that I was looking at, as an FYI on the side. Stuart |
